A lot can be said for following a simple system when you’re working your home based business. Leaders who teach their team how to follow a step by step system are usually among the most successful. Sometimes though, having success of your own, means breaking out of the box and doing something completely original.
Being an original doesn’t mean you have to constantly be re-inventing the wheel, it just means that you should find ways to put your own spin on a technique or system that you know to be successful.
A good example of this is with calling people on the phone and using a script. Almost all home business owners at one point or another have bought a list of leads and followed a script hoping for success.
Sometimes it’s a good script and it works, but more often than not they don’t. The reason reading something off a script doesn’t work for a lot of people is simple… it was written for someone else.
If you have a script that you like to use, take a good look at it. Are there any words or phrases that you wouldn’t normally use? Does it really sound like you at all? If the answer is no, then start tweaking it and making it more your own.
People can usually tell when someone is reading a script that’s why sometimes it’s helpful not to read it at all. If you need help figuring out what to say to a prospect you might just need to simply write out your main points on some paper and hang it where you can see it. That way you will have a clear direction of where you’re going without sounding fake or rehearsed.
Another way you can be original with your home based business is with video marketing. A lot of people use YouTube and other popular video uploading sites to market their business. Video marketing can be very, very successful if you know how to do it correctly.
Almost all people on YouTube do their video some place boring like in front of a desk or at their kitchen table. Add a little spice to your video by going outside. Shoot your next marketing video at a park, on vacation or somewhere else that will give your video a look that will help it stand out.
Try thinking of some other ways that you can be original in your day to day business. If you want to be a leader you have to start acting like a leader and leaders are smart, motivated and always original.
