One of the first things every network marketer is told to do when they sign up is make a list of their family and friends. This method of calling everyone that you’ve ever met is nothing new to the network marketing industry.

Now I don’t know about you, but I wasn’t so keen on the idea of calling my co-workers, neighbors, cousins, hair stylist or dog groomer and trying to get them involved in a home based business.

So I started trying to find ways to get the word out about my business without bugging everyone I had ever met. A lot of people told me that if I didn’t make my list I was doomed to fail.

One of the main reasons people are so big on the idea of calling people you already know is because it is free. So I wanted to find a way that would allow me to still reach a good amount of people and at the same time not spend too much money. After all when you’re first starting out in a home based business you probably don’t have a huge advertising budget.

So I started getting some information on internet marketing. What I found is that almost all internet marketing is free… or very cheap. What I also found is that unlike calling a list of my family and friends internet marketing allowed me to find people who were actually interested in working from home and get them to call me!

By using techniques like: Craigslist, WordPress, Ezinearticles, Forums, and Myspace I could get targeted traffic to my business website and actually have people begging me to sign up… not the other way around!

Now believe me I am not saying that you should be a secret agent and hide your business from the people around you. By all means share it! However, when you already have plenty of prospects picking up the phone and calling you or visiting your website you will be free to share your business without desperately needing them to sign up.

Think of it this way, if you were going to open a restaurant you’d tell your friends and family right? But you probably wouldn’t call them 5 times a day, and beg them to come eat there. It’s the same thing with your home based business.

Your entire posture will change when you realize the power of what you have. You’re not bothering people you’re simply offering them something that most people want or need. You are doing them a favor.

Start learning how to generate free prospects online using internet marketing and I know that your business will never be the same again. You’ll start talking to more people and your friends might just start picking up the phone when you call again!

I don’t know if you’re a fan of cooking…but I am. One of the best things about cooking with a really great recipe, is it’s already been figured out for you.

If the product isn’t the important thing, what is? Well like I stated above, it’s important to find someone who you can work side by side with, someone that you trust and someone who knows what success really means.

There is nothing sadder than watching an unsuccessful person following an unsuccessful person following an unsuccessful person… and so on.

Find someone who is already successful or at the very least find someone who is following someone successful.

The other key to success that has nothing to do with your product is your own personal motivation. Success really is a mindset and once you have that mindset you can sell ice to an Eskimo!

Forget about finding the “perfect product” and follow the other tips I’ve laid out for you and you will start seeing more success than you could ever possibly imagine. Don’t just get more information about making money from home… take action now!

It’s not an irrational fear really. There are scams out there, after all, and for a lot of people it can be hard to tell the difference. Some people might even say it’s impossible, but it’s not.

Spotting a home business scam is really very simple if you know what you’re looking for.

The #1 Thing To Look For…

Lack of a product. It is 100% illegal to have a business and no product. When you are checking out a home based business for the first time, make sure you find out what product you will be marketing.

While it’s good to find a product you can be passionate about, you actually can make money even with a horrible product… lots of people have done it in the past. The product however, does have to exist.

If the person you are speaking with can’t tell you the product run and run fast. You’re about to get scammed.

The #2 Thing To Look For…

A company’s reputation. Now listen to me when I say that you don’t have to sign up with a company that’s been around for 20 years or more. There are a lot of really great start-up or ground floor companies out there.

However, if you can’t find out anything about their corporate office (or they don’t have one), and you can’t find any real people just like you who are actually making money you’re probably dealing with a scam.

Scammers don’t like to put down too many roots so they won’t have a corporate office, they won’t have very many employees and they just generally won’t stay in one place for too long. Never… ever send money to someone who can’t give you at least a little bit of information about their company’s reputation.

The #3 Thing To Look For…

They won’t tell you what you’ll be doing up front. Before you pay any money to someone to start a business you should know 3 things: the product, a little bit about the company itself and what you are going to be doing to make money.

Will you be selling the product? Will you be bringing other people into the business? Both? This is the final thing you should find out before becoming involved in a home based business.

Before I end this article here are a few other good points.

First of all, just because someone asks for money up front doesn’t make it a scam. All real businesses cost money to start. After all, if you were going to start a traditional business it would take money to get started, right? An internet business is no different.

Most home based businesses require that you also get other people involved and help to train them. This is also not the mark of a scam. It’s just a business structure, no more-no less.

Finally, just because you hear a few bad reviews about a business doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a scam. People leave companies all the time and sometimes they are angry. It is super easy to write an angry blog post or say something on the internet when you are upset. So make sure you really get your facts and make sure you’re not just listening to a jilted ex-business owner.

Follow these steps and you won’t be fooled by the scammers out there, and hopefully you’ll find an awesome business that can give you the kind of freedom that only working for yourself can provide!

1) Successful people use their time well. When an urgent task threatens to pull them away from what they’re doing, they don’t rush into it just because it seems urgent. They always ask: Which of these two things is higher on my list of priorities?

2) They turn off the phone from time to time. Can you get more done by leaving a voice message and turning the phone off during certain periods of the day? The telephone is one of the most insidious thieves of our time. It’s urgent but rarely important. It shoves out the less urgent but more important things.

3) They keep a log of how they use their time. If they miss a deadline, they plan how to finish the remainder of their work and estimate as accurately as possible when it will be done.

4) They develop a routine. They set an objective to accomplish every morning and every afternoon.

5) They leave time in their daily schedule for contingencies.

6) They always think twice before postponing a task. Successful people know that pushing themselves to accomplish daily goals makes them more likely to achieve long-term goals.

Setting daily goals will help you to become more successful in your home based business. Don’t you owe it to yourself to start setting goals and getting more done everyday? After all, that means that success is just that much closer!
